About Southerly

What is Southerly?

Southerly is a cool, light grey-blue from the Colorbond® steel range, named for the cooling change that rolls up the Australian east coast. It's a soft accent neutral, lighter than Wallaby and bluer than Surfmist, with just enough cool undertone to feel coastal without ever reading icy or stark.

Why Southerly works

Southerly sits in the cool light end of the palette. It's gentle on the eye, reflects warm afternoon light cleanly, and softens against blue-grey skies and coastal foliage. Southerly works on modern coastal builds, beachside garages, contemporary shouses near the water, and any project where a cool soft neutral beats a flat white. It pairs especially well with darker trim and dark roofs because the cool undertone gives the contrast a lift. Southerly has a solar absorptance of 0.40 (BlueScope SteelSelect data), inside BlueScope's cool roofing band of 0.45 or under, so it keeps an uninsulated roof cooler in summer.

Buildings designed in Southerly

Southerly suits coastal and modern buyers wanting a soft cool neutral. Typical pairings:

Colours that pair with Southerly

For roof and trim, Southerly pairs cleanly with Monument (high-contrast modern combo, the most popular pairing), Basalt (softer dark contrast with depth), Surfmist (subtle light-on-light tonal pairing), and Wallaby (warm-on-cool soft contrast).

Why Colorbond® steel?

Every Southerly wall and roof sheet on a ShedDesigner build is 100% Australian-made BlueScope Colorbond® steel, rolled to AS 1397 and backed by a BlueScope warranty of up to 15 years against corrosion to perforation for shed and garage applications (check your build on BlueScope's warranty estimator). The configurator sends your finished design to ShedSafe accredited dealers for quoting: one design, multiple quotes.
